This painting was donated because the Grand Canyon gives life to the Navajo people— by providing Piñons— just as the Peaks do. Every day the Medicine Man offers multiple sacraments to the Mountains, to protect us, to protect our soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq, and to join with the other Mountains across the world to protect our children. The San Francisco Peak gives the Navajo strength (dl'iz) to live in this time and place, as well as clean water that helps produce food to sustain the People. |
